Price Paid : $16,000.00
Years of Use : 3+ Years
Implements : 70A FEL, 5' finish mower, 7' back blade, 5' bush hog
Purchased From : Godfrey Brothers, Jonesville, Mi
Strengths Starts easy, plenty of power, bucket downforce will lift front wheels off the ground (thats not too weak). I plow snow with turf tires, no chains or loaded tires and I have never been stuck. Diesel is cooler setting behind than a gas engine, and also better on fuel than any tractor ive had or used.
Weaknesses The original battery would drain down and then corrode the terminals. I replaced it with an old battery out of my boat 2 years ago and those problems are gone.
Overall I bought this new over 9 years ago and i dont have a bad thing to say about it. Im glad i bought it. I would do exactly the same thing over again. The people at the dealership were friendly, helpful, and gave me the best deal around. If i had the money i would get a backhoe attachment for it and then it would be perfect. I have a bad back and bad knees and this 790 helped me out more than you can imagine.

Strengths great for finishing mower and other small jobs.
Weaknesses as one other post said i too have had to replace front gears on the790 v & v equipment in anderson s c told me there was no warranty,so i replaced the gears and bearings only to have the left one messed up again. at a cost of 800.00 per wheel it is not a purchase i would make again, wish i knew where to get some help. no wonder they changed the model #. and no i dont play in the mud or do heavy work with it
Overall ok

Strengths All
Weaknesses None! I have driven other brands of tractors, but John Deere cannot be beaten. Other brands are nice, "but they are not 'John Deere'."
Overall Awesome tractor! Bullet proof, without a doubt. John Deere makes the toughest tractors on the planet. "Without a doubt, 'green' is my favorite color!"

Purchased From : Coufal-Prater, Temple, TX
Strengths economical, priced right. Does what I ask it to do.
Weaknesses very, very, disappointed in FWD gears. I have less than 200 hrs. on tractor and have already had to replace the gears and accessories at a cost of over $1,700.00. I got some help as far as price reduction from the dealer and J.D. but next time it's all on me.
Overall Satisfied with exception of failure of FWD gears.

Implements : beater and subsoiler
Purchased From : Mid Westn farm equip.
Strengths has plenty of power for what I have been doing with it. 5 foot beater front end loader and sub soiler with lister bottom. It has been a great tool around the house and small farm.
Weaknesses I have not really found any weakness yet , oh yes if ground is unlevel it will loose tracsion a little.
Overall Great tractor and have really enjoyed the use of it.

Implements : loader, mid mower, 6ft rear blade, 5ft brush hog, 1btm plow, 5ft disc
Purchased From : Filmore Equipment
Strengths Plenty of power. Ran buddies 6ft tiller last week. Gotta get me one. Plow snow great, mows great, very functional. Wife even uses it to feed the horses with 4ft round bales so I don't have to. Runs brush hog great even in woods. If you can push it over with the bucket, you can chop it up. Just bought jd59 snow blower for next year too. Plan on 5ft tiller this summer too. Need more toys.
Weaknesses More lights.
Overall Outstanding tractor. Would recomend it to anyone with 20 acres to play on like me.

Implements : 4wd, FEL, 4' BB, 4' RC, 6" chipper
Purchased From : Sun South
Strengths Simple, powerful, reliable. Shimming the hydraulics takes $2 & 10 minutes and makes a big difference for loader work. With loaded R4's it's pretty stable off-road. More power than traction with R4's, but I need the low center of gravity.
Weaknesses Had to buy a power beyond kit to add hydraulic "top". Manual tranny not for everyone. Needs lights on the ROPS. Just go ahead and put the battery in a plastic battery box, it will save you the trouble of cleaning up the corrosion later.
Overall I needed something I could use off-road in tight woods. For me it's the perfect combination of overall size, power and stability. A bigger tractor with hydro would better for loader work, but it wouldn't work off-road for me. A smaller tractor would be too light and not run the chipper so well. This thing will climb a bank and cross a log like a champ.

Strengths Great power, fuel economy, price.
Weaknesses starts hard at altitude. a bit cramped. manual is a pain if doing a lot of FEL work.
Overall Very happy. At times would like hyro and cab. Have added most of what others complained about -- tool box, rear hydraulics, rear lights, front lights, increased hyrdaulic flow.

Implements : 6' blade,5' brush hog,72" rear mower
Purchased From : used
Strengths Good power.
Always starts with no effort regardless of temperature
Weaknesses Operator platform is cramped/terrible.Have twisted my knees several times. I am only 5' 10" 190 lbs. No tool box, rear lights. Has low hydraulic capacity compared to most units. Float position with loader is very poor. Very unstable with loader on a slight hill! Clutch wear is excessive.
Overall Save your money and spend a little more and buy a 3120 series hydro.Stay away from the manual tranny ! Awesome unit.

Price Paid : $18,000.00
Years of Use : 2-Years
Implements : 4WD, Front-end loader, 5' rotary cutter
Purchased From : Maple Mountain
Strengths Very reliable machine. Great turning radius. Works well on steep slopes [as long as they're reasonably dry !!], though it has taken me time to get use to the 'feel' of it on the slopes, using the front-end loader occasionally to 'balance' myself. Starts up easily in cold-weather [0 degrees F].
Weaknesses Front end loader hydraulics seem weaker than I expected ... I see some have posted about shimming to boost the power. Perhaps I'll give that a try (as soon as I figure out what it means !)
Overall Like another poster, I too brought a tree branch down on my hood and punched a hole through the front of it [no fault of the tractor]. Otherwise it has taken some pretty rugged use in land-clearing as well as routine maintenace of our 27 acres of property year-round. An occasional spray of John Deere green paint keeps it looking good. I'll be buying a backhoe attachment and tiller this year.
