Low hour Kubota RTV900 pricing opinion wanted

First, thanks for all the informative discussion.  You have all really helped me narrow down my search to an RTV900 that I will use to maintain 47 acres of woods upstate NY.  Land is layered in three natural terraces with steep hills between.  There are some nice old logging trails through the property.  No mud but lots of rocks to look out for.  Maybe I will get a plow and do the driveway too one day, but it is short- we are lucky to be at the end of a mile long dead-end road that is plowed by town and I don't mind helping the local economy by paying $35 per snowfall.  In time the situation might change with fuel prices rising.  It may be better to be self-sufficient.  For now I want to be able to haul debris, firewood, nursery stock and tools around with minimal impact to the environment.

I am trying to choose between buying a new RTV900 W to which I would add a roof, glass windshield, wipers, winch, high-mount air filter (thanks for the tip), and a plastic bed liner (don't want the rocks I haul to scrape up the box) or a 120 hour used 2007 RTV900G fitted with the V4210 Curtis Cab, work lights front and rear, wipers, heater, worksite tires (+ radio CD player but who cares about these).  The dealer is asking $12,950 for this setup.  I will then have to add a hydraulic lift for the bed, a brushbar, the same winch, high-mount air filter, and bed liner.  This machine would come out much better equipped for future plowing and winter use but for more money.  My question is whether the price is too high even for a very well maintained and lightly used machine (no hauling + driven only in a corporate park) ?  The other dealer is offering the new RTV900 W for an $11,500 base price as it arrived before the July price increase.

Anyone have an opinion?  Much appreciated.

The used one your looking at is too expensive, your approaching the price of a new RTV1100 after your add-on's. The new RTV900W is also on the pricy side. If you won't mind driving to PA I'll sell you one at $10,800.

That sounds high to me too. We just bought a new RTV 900 W model, and it was 10,500. Other dealers wanted 1k more. This machine though had a build sticker of May 07, so I guess it sat around for a year. We have 10 hours on it now. Just got a Line-X bed liner sprayed in today, and the 4,000 pound winch is on order.

Comments so far. Power steering is great. Ride is great compared to our Mule 3010. I can see why people complain about the balky shifting. With the pressure release it is acceptable, but barely. Without it, it was not ready for prime time....

The hydro trans is not like a tractor, where you can stall out the engine, this will actually like just sit and do nothing if you are in too high a gear and trying to pull to much or climb too much of a hill. Lots of good info on here though with how to "use" the trans the right way.

Where are you in upstate NY? We were just in the Albany area and I saw a new Kubota dealer on Route 20 on Guilderland.

Was this one out of VA with 61 hrs - no abuse?  Bought for wife but used to haul rocks?  I liked the setup more (metal roof) but could not get down to inspect it.  The one I am looking at has never been used for hauling anything and only driven on blacktop around a refinery complex.  Also 1 year newer and if you like the cab it was almost twice the price new ($3900 for the cab alone).  Good luck with yours, it sounds like a great deal.

Wayne- we are at the Southeast edge of the Catskill State Park so our closest dealers are PIne Bush Equipment and Reardon Briggs.  Maybe I should try the dealers further north.  The one in Salem looks like he has a lot of inventory.   The used machine I am looking at was sold in May 2007.  Counting all the accessories at 50% of list, I come up with an imputed $10230 for a 1 year old RTV900G that has 120 hrs but never used for hauling or taken off tarmac.  Was corporate owned so garaged and all services would have been done properly.  Even if it is as new you got a better deal than this, but if the dealer comes down about 1k on the package and delivers (250 miles) it will work for me.

Taylor:  OK. I went back and read your original post, and I guess the real question is, do you really need/want the curtis cab? We opted against a cab since for us part of the fun is driving around in the open. And we don't really want a windshield either, so we don't need the wipers. But, having lived at the foot of the catskills, we understand how COLD it gets upstate, so that may be a  requirement. We decided to put our extra money into the Line-X liner, 4,000 pound winch, and some extra lights as soon as figure what to buy. And, I need to get a small "dash" light, since you can't see the shifter when it is dark...

If you don't need the cab etc, I'd have to think seriously about it. The good news is, for 120 hours, it's hard to imagine anything serious went wrong unless they drive it in 4WD all day long on concrete.

    Whatever you do, good luck!

    Wayne
