On your control arm (next to the seat), push the arm all the way down. Now hit it a bit further. It should lock in that position. That's the float position.
Once it's in float, get a friend as it's a bit heavy but try to lift the front of the bed (simulating a dump) by hand. If you can get it to open, you should be able to lock it there by releasing the lift arm out of the float position and put it back in it's neutral spot. Also put the safety support bracket around the cylinder.
If you can do that, while the bed is in the up position, fire the engine up and try to move the cyl up and down. It should be able to move a bit before hitting the upper limit or the support bracket. Let us know your findings.
